Why and How I Track Visitors

The text below is a template and legally reflects what you need to know about tracking and privacy.

Personally though, I wanted to tell you why I track visitors: it helps me build a better site.

The data collected by Google Analytics is anonymized, that means I cannot link it back to you. What I see is generic information about what pages were visited and how long visitors stayed at the page. This allows me to see, in general terms, what paths visitors took to learn about my services. With this information I can make what you need to know more accessible.

I also learn about what countries people visited from, the language of the browsers, and the specific browser they used. All this is very helpful. It allows me make informed decisions about design; every browser has it’s own quirks and displays pages somewhat differently. I take these into account when making design decisions and knowing the more popular browsers helps me decide what to focus on.

Countries and languages? Well, I’m just curious. It makes me smile when I see there are visitors from places as far away as Brazil, Thailand and Japan. But then if I discover a market in the Philippines I just might make an intro in Telugu!

I am looking for a way that will allow you to turn Google Analytics off when visiting my website.
