The quiet is what I enjoy about backpacking – not the silence. Without products and people vying for my attention I have the opportunity to return to myself. In this video I try to share that experience by creating a soundscape of the hike.

Obviously I had no idea what I had walked into until I got home and looked it up online. The people here are primarily descendant from Chitimacha and Houma tribes.

Pointe des Chenes Wildlife Management Area

Bird observation platform in the Wildlife Refuge

Last week I explored the Pointe des Chene Wildlife Management Area. It is about an hour and a half south of New Orleans and covers an area of 33,488 acres. I managed to walk a stretch of about five miles.
